More Ways to Give

Planned Giving

One of the most lasting ways to support the National Immigration Law Center’s work is to include us in your estate plans. As you make your legacy plans, consider including the National Immigration Law Center in your will or living trust, or naming us as a beneficiary in your life insurance policy, retirement account, brokerage or savings accounts.

Ready to get started? We’ve partnered with FreeWill to make it quick and easy to include NILC in your estate plans. Click here to write a legal will at no personal cost and create a legacy to support future generations of immigrants and their families. We strongly encourage you to speak with an attorney as you make your estate plans.

Cy-Près Awards

The National Immigration Law Center is an ideal place to direct cy-près awards.

Cy-près awards are derived from class action litigation settlement funds that, for a variety of reasons, cannot be distributed to the class members or beneficiaries who were the intended recipients of the settlement. Under the cy-près doctrine, courts can distribute these residual funds to appropriate charitable causes. Counsel in an individual case often nominate nonprofit organizations whose missions reflect the concerns of the case to receive these funds.

Ultimately, it is up to the courts to determine whether a recommended recipient is appropriate for a cy pres award. Attorneys, however, can play an important role in directing cy pres awards to the National Immigration Law Center.
