NILC Named Winner in Large Non-Profit of the Year at the 10th Annual Shorty Impact Awards
WASHINGTON – The National Immigration Law Center (NILC) has been named a 10th Annual Shorty Impact Awards Winner for Large Non-Profit of the Year. Every year, the Shorty Awards honors three of the highest-performing entrants with an Of the Year Award. The honor is selected based on the total number of wins and distinctions received. NILC’s specific awards include:
- Instagram: NILC’s Instagram took home the top award, recognizing the reach and engagement of the channel and the quality and impact of the content. In the past year, NILC’s audience grew by more than 41,000 followers, increased engagement by 2,767%, and the content was viewed more than 22 million times.
- Medium-Length Video: NILC won Gold for the bilingual video, We Get There Together, with renowned illustrator Molly Crabapple, which offers a big picture look at the U.S. immigration system and underscores who benefits from keeping the public divided.
- Immigration & Refugees: The video also won Silver in the Immigration & Refugees category, recognizing the broader fight for justice, dignity, and rights for immigrant communities.
NILC also received the Audience Honor awards for each category, which is decided by public voting.
“Receiving the Large Non-Profit of the Year award is a testament to NILC’s critical work on behalf of the immigrant communities we serve,” said Kica Matos, president of the National Immigration Law Center (NILC). “In a digital landscape filled with constant noise and rampant disinformation, it is incredibly gratifying to know that we’re reaching and mobilizing more audiences with bold and innovative storytelling and have this impact recognized.”
About The National Immigration Law Center

About the Shorty Awards
The Shorty Awards (also known as “The Shortys”) honor the most innovative work in digital and social media by brands, agencies, and organizations.
Founded in 2008, the Shortys’ notable previous winners include Malala Yousafzai, Trevor Noah, Michelle Obama, Conan O’Brien, Lady Gaga, Lizzo, and brands such as MTV Entertainment Studios & Paramount, Digitas, HBO, Meta, Airbnb, Honda, UNICEF, and PepsiCo.
The Shortys’ mission is to celebrate, inspire and push the boundaries of excellence in digital storytelling. Entries are judged on the merits of creativity, strategy, and engagement by the Real Time Academy, a body of hand-selected industry experts and leaders. The public can also weigh in and select their favorite Shorty Awards contenders during Audience Honor Voting.
Currently, the Shortys have two annual competitions, the flagship Shorty Awards and Shorty Impact Awards, dedicated to honoring the best work with a positive social impact.
