As an organization committed to racial justice and equity, NILC strives to internally embody the values that guide our work.
To that end, over a decade ago, NILC established its Racial Justice Initiative (RJI), an internal working group that confronts issues of racial injustice and works to create a culture of belonging and inclusion in the workplace.
Comprised of staff from across the organization, the RJI supports NILC’s broader vision for a society where all people can thrive and where racial identity cannot statistically predict a person’s socio-economic outcomes or life opportunities.
The RJI also aims to ensure that NILC is taking deliberate steps to meaningfully involve Black, Indigenous, and people of color in the creation and implementation of the policies that influence their lives.
March on Washington 60th Anniversary
On Aug. 26, 2023, NILC staff joined racial justice and civil rights leaders at the March on Washington 60-year Anniversary in Washington, D.C. At the event, President Kica Matos delivered a powerful speech emphasizing that the fight for immigrant justice is inextricably linked to the broader cause of liberation.
