NILC Responds to Trump’s Appointment of Stephen Miller as New Chief of Staff

WASHINGTON — Kica Matos, president of the National Immigration Law Center, issued the following statement in response to Trump appointing Stephen Miller as his new chief of staff:

“We are appalled that Stephen Miller, the architect of the Trump administration’s anti-immigrant, white nationalist agenda, has been promoted to chief of staff. If there was ever a message that the American people delivered resoundingly this week, it is that this administration’s anti-immigrant, pro-authoritarian agenda is exactly the opposite of what they want. We must all step up now to hold the line and fight even harder to protect our immigrant communities and preserve our democracy. This includes pushing Congress to be a bulwark against this administration’s attempts to further undermine our democracy.”
