NILC Welcomes Frank Chi to Board of Directors
WASHINGTON — The National Immigration Law Center (NILC) today announced the addition of Emmy-winning filmmaker, storyteller, and visual artist Frank Chi to NILC’s board of directors.
“At NILC, we know that changing the narrative is crucial for changing policy and culture, and I have had the honor of seeing firsthand the power of Frank’s storytelling to make a transformative impact,” said Kica Matos, president of the National Immigration Law Center. “His vision and experience will help us further our work to challenge harmful narratives and replace them with stories that affirm the dignity and belonging of immigrants in America.”
“As the child of immigrants, joining the board of NILC is deeply personal for me,” said Frank Chi. “I’m honored to support an organization that fights to advance the rights and opportunities of immigrant communities. I look forward to working with NILC to deepen the organization’s efforts to tell true stories that move hearts and minds.”
Frank Chi works at the intersection of art, politics, and culture. Chi’s debut film – the HBO Original “38 at the Garden” (2022) – about the cultural significance of Jeremy Lin’s 2012 “Linsanity” run on the New York Knicks, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was shortlisted for the Academy Award, won a Critics Choice Award, and was nominated for three Sports Emmys – winning for Outstanding Short Documentary.
As a visual artist and creative director, Chi was also a member of the team that created the popular NOTORIOUS RBG campaign honoring the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg; and was featured in the Academy Award-nominated film “RBG.”
For over a decade, Chi worked in political communications and collaborated with partners like Senator Elizabeth Warren, MoveOn and Campaign Zero to create impactful political content across social media. He began his career on Barack Obama’s Media Team in 2008. Chi grew up in New Haven, Connecticut and graduated from Bowdoin College. He lives in Los Angeles.
