NILC Statement on Maryland’s Protecting Sensitive Locations Act

WASHINGTON — Matthew Lopas, director of state advocacy & technical assistance at the National Immigration Law Center (NILC), issued the following statement in support of the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act, an emergency bill in Maryland that will affirm the state’s commitment to restricting ICE access to schools, health care facilities, libraries, courthouses, and shelters:

“All of us should be able to visit the doctor, seek shelter from domestic violence, or go to school free from fear. These are community centers that provide vital, sometimes lifesaving services, not places for immigration enforcement and intimidation. The Protecting Sensitive Locations Act is a necessary bill that will help protect the health and safety of all Marylanders. By moving quickly to pass this vital legislation, the legislature can reaffirm that Maryland is a state where all residents have the freedom to thrive.”
