NILC Statement Following U.S. Senate Vote on DHS Funding

WASHINGTON — Kica Matos, president of the National Immigration Law Center, issued the following statement after the U.S. Senate vote on DHS funding:

“We cannot in good conscience give another cent of our tax dollars to ICE and CBP when we’ve seen the deadly and inhumane consequences of their lawless operations in Minneapolis and communities around the country. We commend every Senator who took a stand today by voting NO to more funding for ICE and CBP. This is an important step toward justice and accountability. We urge members of Congress to continue to hold the line on any funding until ICE and CBP surge forces are out of Minneapolis and out of our communities, and until Congress enacts meaningful, permanent change to stem the flow of funds and stop the violence against immigrants and their communities.”
