Efrén C. Olivares Named to TIME’s Annual TIME100 Next List of the 100 Leaders Shaping the Future

NEW YORK — TIME named Efrén C. Olivares, vice president of litigation & legal strategy at the National Immigration Law Center (NILC), to the 2025 TIME100 Next.

An expansion of the TIME100 list of the most influential people in the world, TIME100 Next highlights 100 emerging leaders who are shaping the future of business, entertainment, sports, politics, health, science and activism, and more.

“I am humbled and honored by this recognition, which I view as a testament to the tireless work immigrants do every day to strengthen our communities and the country as a whole,” said Efrén C. Olivares. “As an immigrant, I am fully aware that this recognition is only possible thanks to the sacrifices of many others before me, first and foremost my parents and my family. I work to bring our country closer to the promise of equal opportunity for all – and I’m proud to work alongside many colleagues in the fight to ensure that promise is real for every immigrant family in the U.S. We will continue that work until every member of our communities has a fair chance to thrive in this country.”

At NILC, Olivares leads a team of lawyers and advocates working for immigration laws and practices that respect human rights. His team recently filed a lawsuit, LGML v. Noem, to stop the Trump administration from unlawfully expelling hundreds of unaccompanied Guatemalan children from the U.S. in the middle of the night on a holiday weekend.

The full list and related tributes appear in the October 13, 2025, issue, available on newsstands on Friday, October 3, and now at time.com/next
