Un Número de identificación personal del contribuyente (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, ITIN) es un número de procesamiento tributario asignado por el Servicio de Impuestos Internos (Internal Revenue Service, IRS) de EE. UU. Un ITIN tiene nueve cifras, comenzando con el número nueve (es decir, 9XX-XX-XXXX).1 Desde 1996, el IRS ha asignado ITIN a contribuyentes y sus dependientes que no son elegibles para obtener un número del Seguro Social (SSN).

Todas las personas que ganan un sueldo – independiente de su estatus de inmigración – tienen que pagar impuestos federales. El IRS asigna ITIN a las personas que no son elegibles para obtener un SSN, para que puedan cumplir con las leyes tributarias.
