NILC Statement on New Trump Administration’s Proclamation Banning Hundreds of Millions of Black and Brown People from Entering the United States

WASHINGTON — Kica Matos, president of the National Immigration Law Center (NILC), issued the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s announcement of a drastically-expanded travel ban that would arbitrarily bar hundreds of millions of people of color from entering the United States:

“In a proclamation laced with unsubstantiated legal justifications, the Trump administration has arbitrarily and dramatically expanded their previous Muslim and African Bans. The impact of this new ban will be deeply racialized, as it will effectively bar hundreds of millions of Black and Brown people from entering the United States. We are outraged by these actions, stand in solidarity with the communities that these bans will unjustly harm and call on people from all walks of life to push back forcefully against these discriminatory actions.”
