NILC to Trump Administration: We are Prepared to Fight Any Attempt to Suspend Habeas Corpus in Court

WASHINGTON — Kica Matos, president of the National Immigration Law Center, issued the following statement after White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller confirmed the Trump administration is considering suspending habeas corpus – the right of anyone to challenge their detention in court – for immigrants targeted in its ongoing unconstitutional assault on immigrant communities.

“We have a very clear message for Stephen Miller, Donald Trump, and everyone in the administration considering suspending habeas corpus to further their unconstitutional assault on immigrant communities and our democracy: we will fight and defeat you in court.”
