Join the National Immigration Law Center on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at 3 p.m. Pacific time for a 1.5-hour training (webinar) with optional MCLE credit available. (More information about MCLE credit is provided below.)

We will be discussing:

• Eligibility for Medi-Cal and Covered California.
• Health care programs open to all immigrants, including the expansion of Medi-Cal to children who meet income and residency requirements regardless of their immigration status.
• Responses to immigrant and mixed–immigration status families’ concerns about applying for health coverage, including the “public charge” rules.

NILC attorneys will share their expertise and experience, and we will discuss best practices for enrolling in health coverage.

Gabrielle Lessard is a NILC health policy attorney. A public interest lawyer for over 20 years, Gabrielle served as NILC’s first health policy attorney from 2001 to 2005 and rejoined the organization in 2013. Besides her work at NILC, Gabrielle has also been legal director of the Insight Center for Community Economic Development, a lecturer at UC Berkeley Law School, and an independent attorney and consultant to tax-exempt organizations. She received a juris doctor degree, with honors, from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Mayra Joachin is a Social Justice Fellow at NILC. She focuses on improving access to affordable health care coverage for uninsured immigrants through policy analysis, consumer advocacy, working directly with affected individuals, and impact litigation. Before coming to NILC, Mayra interned at the Public Law Center’s Immigration Unit and was a judicial extern for Judge Denny Chin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Mayra holds a juris doctor degree from Columbia Law School.

MCLE credit is available for a nominal fee to participants who are members of the State Bar of California. They are eligible to receive 1.5 hours of MCLE credit. (Participants who are not members of the California State Bar should consult with their state bar before registering for this training to verify whether California MCLE credit is transferable.)

The fee for 1.5 hours of MCLE credit is $30 for IOLTA organization staff, $40 for staff from other nonprofit organizations, and $90 for other individuals.
