Eligibility for Title IV Aid for Battered Immigrants Who Are “Qualified Aliens”

A “Dear Colleague” letter dated June 4, 2010, that addresses the issue of immigrant abuse survivors' eligiblity for student aid is posted on the federal government's Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) website.

This letter describes the process by which a person who has documentation provided by the Department of Homeland Security’s United States Citizenship and Immigration Service that supports a finding that the person is a “Battered Immigrant” and meets the definition of a “qualified alien” can qualify for Title IV, HEA program assistance.
