Telephonic Briefing

CONGRESS MUST TURN A NEW LEAF ON IMMIGRANT POLICIES WHEN FINISHING
HEALTH CARE REFORM

Washington, DC—While lawmakers try to reconcile the long-awaited health care reform bill designed to provide coverage for all Americans, myths and misperceptions still prevail when it comes to immigrant health care access.  Amid this confusion, policymakers have inserted restrictive immigrant-centered measures that could exclude many more from receiving affordable and equitable health care.  Policy experts, health care officials, and faith leaders will join in a telephonic briefing to provide a clear picture of immigrants’ stake in health care reform, explain access to health care for the remaining uninsured, and discuss the harm of immigrant restrictions on all communities.  Hosted by NCLR (National Council of La Raza)—the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States—along with national advocates of health care reform, the telephonic briefing will be held on Wednesday, January 13 at 1:00 p.m. EST.
