STATE DEPT. COUNTRY REPORTS FOR 1999 AVAILABLE ON WEB
Immigrants’ Rights Update, Vol. 14, No. 2, April 11, 2000

The U.S. State Dept.’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (BDHRL) has posted its 1999 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices on the department’s web site at www.state.gov/www/global/human_rights/hrp_reports_mainhp.html.  Each year the State Dept. makes these reviews of the state of internationally recognized individual, civil, political, and worker rights, as set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and submits them to the speaker of the House of the Representatives and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.  The BDHRL released its report for 1999 on Feb. 25, 2000.

Visitors to the site can also view country reports from 1993 through 1998, as well as the text of the testimony delivered by Undersecretary of State Harold Hongju Koh upon the 1999 report’s submission to the House Subcommittee on International Operations and Human Rights.
