System of Records Notice (SORN); Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE); E-Verify.  In its SORN (73 FR 75445-52 (Dec. 11, 2008)), DHS announces (1) “the expansion of the scope of [SAVE] to include verification of citizenship and immigration status for any lawful purpose, not just for government benefit granting purposes as described in previous [Privacy Impact Assessments],” and (2) “the expansion of the scope of E-Verify to indicate that it is no longer solely voluntary in some cases and no longer solely for new employees.”  NILC opposes these expansions (see comments submitted on 1/12/09 to the Dept. of Homeland Security chief privacy officer).
