The 8th National Low-Income Immigrants’ Rights Conference focused on a wide range of issues affecting low-income immigrants, including access to health care and public benefits, workers' rights, immigration enforcement, access to education, and legalization proposals. The mix of basic trainings and more in-depth strategy sessions provided to participants help them gain critical skills and also provide opportunities to develop joint advocacy and organizing plans to improve the lives of low-income immigrants in the long-term.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Bryan Stevenson
Widely known as one of the nation’s foremost experts on race, poverty, and the criminal justice system, Bryan Stevenson is perhaps best known for his groundbreaking anti-death penalty work. As executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative in Alabama, Stevenson has taken on capital cases that were considered unwinnable and won landmark decisions to strengthen civil rights for all. Furthermore, Stevenson has challenged all of us to take a better look at the fundamental flaws that exist within our criminal justice system.
He joins us to strengthen yet another bridge as we work toward creating a more equal and just society for all those living in this country, regardless of where they were born, what the color of their skin is, or what their income level may be.
