ISSUES PRESS RELEASE AND "Qs & As" ON WALTERS SETTLEMENT
The Immigration and Naturalization Service has issued a press
release and a six-page questions and answers sheet regarding the settlement
reached in Walters, et al. v. Reno, et al. The press release announces
the agency's publication of a notice in the Federal Register providing comprehensive
details about the settlement. The questions and answers sheet provides information
regarding the rights of class members and INS responsibilities under the settlement.

FAIRNESS
HEARING COMPLETED, TERMS OF SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT FINALIZED
The fairness hearing in Walters, et al. v. Reno, et al.
was held in Seattle, Washington on Feb. 22, 2001, and the terms of the settlement
agreement in the case have been finalized.
